A hospice home health aide, also commonly referred to as an HHA, is trained to provide personal care to patients in their own home environment.
A Hospice Aide provides basic personal care for the hospice patient. They will often be the team member who spends the most amount of time with the patient and their family since they are the ones providing personal care services in the patient’s home and assisting them with the activities of daily living (ADLs).
Whenever hospice care is provided to patients who reside in a free standing care facility (nursing home, hospice home, hospital), the role of the hospice home health aide is designed to provide direct patient care on an intermittent basis. Care provided is supplemental and above and beyond the care that the facility is already providing. Hospice Home Health Aides are there to add to rather than replace normal or routine nursing care provided by the care facility.
